First personal solar station begins operations from moshav rooftop

The first personal solar power station in an agricultural community was hooked up to the electricity grid yesterday. It was erected on the rooftop of Moshav Moledet member Gad Meron, and will feed electricity into the national network. The Electricity Corp. installed a meter in the family home, and the state will pay the household for the electricity it produces

Solarpower, which installed the 2.7-kilowatt power station at a cost of NIS 90,000 to the Meron family, calculated they will earn back the investment within 10 years, for a return on investment of 7% to 8%. Solarpower CEO Alon Tamari says solar panels in moshavim and kibbutzim could produce 250 megawatts, worth about NIS 800 million annually (based on current prices for solar electricity).
